In this season where we are given a national holiday to pause life and focus on all that is right in our lives, I’m mindful of each person in our Saddleback Worship teams. The apostle Paul gives the Church this instruction:
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
He says to give thanks IN all circumstances. Notice he doesn’t say to give thanks FOR all circumstances. I know that in our teams many of us are experiencing mountaintop victories. The sun is shining so brightly and God’s favor is abundantly clear. I celebrate and give thanks with you! Simultaneously, some of us are walking through the deepest waters and the tide seems to keep rising. Through teary eyes, I whisper my prayer of gratitude alongside you as well.
No matter where you find yourself this November, know that our Provider and Sustainer is singing over you. His grace is sufficient for you. No matter what. (2 Corinthians 12:9) In season of abundance, may we not rely on ourselves, our own wit and wisdom. And in drought and sorrow, may we not forget that all of His inheritance is still ours. He has given us more than enough to face what is here.
Several months ago, some teammates penned the lyrics that have been an anthem in this season. Let’s keep these as a prayer and lifesong all year long.
“Let every song we sing say thank you.”
Happy thanksgiving everyone. You’re at the top of my gratitude list.
